Touch-screen TVs – how far are they from becoming mainstream?

I am always always ALWAYS being asked about new technology, and how far I think it will be until a certain product becomes mainstream.

Recently, it’s been going like this..

“Alan, oh so mighty god of technology, how long do you think it will be until I can have a touch-screen TV in my house?”

Ok, so maybe it’s been without the god reference, but you get the picture! People are calling out for touch-screen TVs… we’ve got our touch-screen mobile phones, we’ve got our touch-screen home-security devices… we want touch-screen TVs!

Well, to be honest with you guys, the technology is already out there, you can, if you fork out a healthy sum of money, go out and buy yourself a touch-screen TV. However, this won’t be amazing… it will be a pretty standard model with a few nice features here and there.

What we want to know is when will we be able to control our entire home-cinema catalogue at home via our touch-screen TV (that can access the internet, make video calls, etc.). Well, I’m going to tell you the same thing again! The technology is out there, it is being developed as we speak! So sit tight, and I’m sure your patience will be rewarded in the years to come.

Oh, and one thought to leave you with… think about how cool touch-screen 3DTV would be! It would be like stepping into a living hologram… now that’s amazing.

Apple Ipad… wow!

I went into my local technology store yesterday and saw it looking at me – staring gleefully into my eyes crying out to be played with. It was the Apple Ipad. Apple’s state-of-the-art revolutionary piece of technological genius.

I thought to myself, it’s only been out a month or so, and I bet it’s already brought in more money in sales than most of us will earn in a lifetime – that’s just how powerful this company is.

So, I edgily shuffled over to the counter, checking no-one else was making their own way there too… let me tell you know, if they were, I would have leaped into position and fought for a go on the Ipad! Luckily, I was the only one in the store, and I had a good half an hour fiddling around with the sleek machine.

It’s so smooth, it’s so bright… but it’s surprisingly heavy considering its size. That doesn’t take away the fact that this technological advancement is absolutely wonderful.

Having a play around with the Ipad’s functions was far more enjoyable than fiddling around on my laptop or phone – and that’s why I bought one there and then.

The ease of moving from app to app, the transition between screens, the sheer potential of this machine make it an absolute winner. It’s a must buy for any of you techies out there, and can literally be taken everywhere.

For me, the Ipad is like a perfectly cooked cake. It’s smooth, it serves its purpose and it gives you just the right amount of what you need.
