Technology of the future

One of the most common questions I am asked is about what’s in hold for the future of technology.

And to tell you the truth, I have no idea at all! But I can make some educated guesses!

(The suggestions below are probably more in line to what I would like to happen, rather than what could happen!)

Flying cars

Everyone’s thought about them when they’ve been stuck in traffic – but no-one has actually done anything about it (although I did notice there is now a ‘flying car’ of some description, but it’s not road legal!).

The technology would be simple – it would have to follow along the same lines as a helicopter – but with the propulsion from either underneath, or at either side. It couldn’t be like a plane, because the car would need a fairly lengthy run-up (and with today’s traffic, that’s not going to happen.

One of the things I’d be worried about with this, though, is the risk of serious injury if the car was to break down in mid-air. There is only one way to go – and that’s down. So there has to be some sort of wind breaking equipment attached to the sides that stops the car from falling straight down.

In reality… we are a long way off this sort of technology, simply because it’s not practical in today’s modern-day society!

Robot’s will take over

By this I don’t mean they’ll take over the world and get rid of us all – I mean they will take over the operation of all machinery and probably become common-place in our homes.

“Ever wanted someone else to do the cleaning for you? Not in the mood to cook your tea when you get in from work? Well, you don’t have to… because Robo-maid 3000 will do that for you…” – you can just picture the adverts now.

And in reality, we aren’t that far away from this. In fact, there are some robots that can already do this, so keep your eyes peeled for this in the future!

Just a quick note – we are still, however, a long way from robot cab drivers, and robot shop assistants!

Paper TV

Imagine being able to fold your TV up and keep it in your pocket – without leaving any crease marks. Well… welcome to the world of paper TV.

There has already been something similar to this, made using a very thin digital film – but it wasn’t practical and couldn’t be stored anywhere without it being damaged.

I have no doubt, however, that in the future, we will see the development of ultra-thin, ultra-portable TV – which will be on something as thin as a piece of paper.

How cool will that be? You could take your TV absolutely anywhere and watch your favourite shows or the news whenever and wherever you want!
